Hi. Welcome to my blog. I have painstakingly moved away from being a staunch believer of the Christian faith to becoming an Atheist. Like many who have made this move, it was not an easy decision. Honestly, my thought life is a lot clearer now, for I have only to base my life-changing decisions based on experience and facts and not on the rules laid down for me by any religious group claiming that they have the truth.
I know that many of you out there would question my decision, especially those who are into believing in god. But let's just say that I have found out, through logic and reason that the existence of god could neither be proven nor debunked. So rather than believing in something that could not be tested and proven--like the belief in an all powerful, omniscient, omnipresent being--I would rather approach this subject with caution.
I'm not the intellectual type of person; I am just an average guy. My decision to become an atheist stems from my desire to think for my own, discover for my own, test things on my own. I have a deep desire to develop an open mind over a lot of topics and issues that affect me, rather than going along with popular opinion. It is pretty sad that most of my life my mind have been closed to a number of ideas because of my deeply ingrained belief system. And by becoming open to a multitude of ideas, I've led myself towards self-discovery and self-fulfillment.
We are living in a modern world where countless breakthroughs in science and technology affect our lives. And I realized that it is through upgrading my knowledge and potential that I could adapt to this fast-changing world. The Internet, I believe, has broadened my mind and influenced my decision to adopt this atheistic approach. I've watched debates between the religious fundamentalist and the free-thinkers and have found that human reasoning reigns supreme. I've watched documentaries, interviews, interesting people, sharing why they believe what they believe. And it is through my exposure to these wealth of information, plus my personal experience that I've arrived at this decision to become an atheist.
Now join me as we explore the meaning of life through self-discovery, science, reason. I may make a lot of glitches along the way, but that's the best thing about being open minded that you are flexible enough to change your viewpoints based on the current knowledge and information available.
Reader, please feel free to post your comments and suggestions. I am happy to be enlightened by your thoughts.
Jekongz.
